Carefully check the wiring and connectors, the control unit isn't immune from failure - but it's rare. The problem is more likely to be the cabling, connectors or coil itself by a significant margin.
Being as how the control unit is also the most expensive part of the system by quite some degree I'd make absolutely certain of everything else before condemning it.
