exactly like new. If you do any sort of serious miles, really look at the servicing costs of the shock you select. If something is finished after 20K miles and so expensive to rebuild that you may as well buy another one, it's a false economy to buy a cheaper one.
*I could have gotten away even longer without servicing it. Even after 20K miles it was still waaaay better than a brand new stock shock (I rode it back to back with my brother's then brand new bike). It was the low cost and vague feeling of "it can't stay this good forever" that made me service it.
