May be worth a read, I havnt taken a look myself but from what i currently think the spec is:
(note this is only for SV's 2002-2007)

SV650 = Naked version:

SV650S = With faired headlight (pointy nose):

fairing lowers were not fitted on any factory models until the 2007 sport was released. Prior to that the fairings were considered an optional extra.

Post 2007 the SV650 sport (twinspark) came with fairing lowers and the white central strip through the paintwork:
