VAT on second hand goods vehicles?
I was always under the impression that when a vehicle first registerred and sold brand new, the VAT is there in the price & is paid by the first owner...
Then when they come to sell the car, the vat was already paid back when it was new and there is no vat for the next buyer to pay.
So how comes there's alot of vehicles (especially vans) popping up on autotrader with the price showing for example "2004 VW transporter £5000 +vat" for a vehicle which will have had the vat paid when it was new? Are they trying to pull a fast one on any unsuspecting customers or when it's a vehicle which has been used for business use which is then being sold to another business, is it just like any other goods/materials/services for a VAT registerred business?
