That assumes they're kids though right? And if that is the case a motion sensor cat deterant alarm will work - my 14 year old daughter winces in pain when she sets the one off in my parent's garden but I can't hear it at all.
I'd vote for door alarms to scare the gits but if you don't have power they will be the more feeble battery jobs.
