I haven't done this so not an expert but, if your panels have been down the road I would fill any scratches with filler or they will likely show through the vinyl.

And looking at the link the op posted up it says on there that the vinyl will last up to 4 years if used on the exterior so perhaps giving it a few coats of clear will make it more durable (depending on the quality of the laquer used of course).
