My bike is in the garage alongside my son's CBR 125 R and a Sachs Speedjet. And it's a close call on whose got the bigger tyre on the back.
It's a bit of a concern that on the same width tyre the SV is shoving out 70 BHP and their bikes combined have less grunt than my lawn mower. Which might also explain why she feels skittish.
Let's hope there is a cheap option out there.

yeah the 180's and 190's are almost the standard tyre size nowadays with big bikes. makes the SV's look like a pencil's width. however it was for the SV so i guess its made for the bike. i have no problems with the handling on mine, only in the wet but i run high tyre pressures and iv got a shoulder, but in the dry i swear i'd go off the edge of a tyre one day soon. interesting how 2 same/similar bikes have such massive differences.
Tam was looking on TWF, thats what gave me the thought :P. but they had no clear answers to it, and i know guys like you, northwind and co. are up on what can and can't be done. might look into it
