I didn't race but I got a nice WP shock for my SV. I got it 2nd hand from someone on here and it transformed the bike. It was adjustable for length so I ran it slightly (15mm) longer than the standard, it made the back end way more planted and the turn in was a lot quicker.

I put WP springs in the front changing the oil and by the end had them dropped through the forks by 10 mm.

For me it improved the bike.
