Re: New girl sets up a SV650 YouTube channel
i never trust a torque wrench unless its on new bolts and even then i'm always feeling for failure.
get yourself a big bag of used bolts from ebay and stick the bolt head or nut in a vice then tighten it up using a spanner/wrench/socket and get a feel for stripping threads and snapping bolts. apply some copper grease if you have to as it will help to strip the threads.
it often amazes me how tight people think that nuts/bolts should be and i dont think people realise that they dont have to be that tight to be an affective mechanical fixing. wind the nut/bolt down then tighten till a little force can be felt through the hand then nip up, thats all that is needed. if you are going to use a torque wrench then always dial down the torque on an old bolt by 5Nm and make sure the bolt is dry. take great care tightening oily/copper grease nuts/bolts as they are very easy to strip.
