I've not blanked the rear pipe off on mine. Its quite loud so I've made a cap for mot time so I can take the pipe off and cap it. If you blank off the rear pipe just after the new section then you wont be able to cap it as the gas will have no where to go.

Check my post re twin exhaust. I've linked in my facebook photo album thats got some pics of the modified pipe work to give you an idea of where stuff goes.
