Speedo isnt connected with any starting circuit, check you haven't dislodged any of the things like the clutch switch, its easily done.

Even if you charged the battery beforehand, it could still be goosed, these little batteries dont like being left for a long time. Mine did the same. Enough power to run the lights, but not enough to crank it over.
