I did this as well. Wasn't sure when I bought the chain so got the longer one just in case - removing links being easier than adding ones you aint got.
Because:
The S model with the 15/44 sprockets takes a 108 chain. Lots of parts lists get this wrong. Looks like yours might have S sprockets fitted, or perhaps was once faired?
