My old GT380's cases were unlacquered, having being polished by the previous owner. I used to ride on the occasional dry winter day when the roads were salted, and the alloy held up well: any spots that appeared were easily polished off.
I used to paint all the chrome (which the GTs have a LOT of) with ACF-50 in October and leave it until April, it looked awful with the accumulated salt and muck crusted on but was always absolutely fine after the spring wash-off, the ACF did what it said on the tin
