yep, that's the way they are, Sir.

I fitted an alum block around 10-12mm thick to the underside of the foot, cut to shape, radiused slightly on the bottom to sit nicely on the ground.
Drilled a hole through the centre of the foot and tapped a hole M6 in the block, bolted on with a stainless capscrew and some thread lock.

Experiment with some different thickness spacers to see what suits your bike, suspension setting, tyres etc.
