At Ally Pally I was advised that I can renew the can "skin" for £60 by just drilling out the old rivets, popping on the new "skin" and re-riveting. |

Can't you use a plastic pan scourer on your can. I used to race mountain bikes (always lost, couldn't run as fast
) and there were a lot of titanium framed bikes around. Quick rub over with scotchbrite used to bring them up again.
Try it on the back of the can (the bit you can't see) and see how you get on.
