The tools in the standard kit are crap, don't waste your money on them, buy some reasonable quality stuff and stick it under the seat, the one standard item that you will need is the spark plug spanner, it's articulated and by far the easiest tool to squeeze behind the rad, even if it is made by Cadburys.

Suggest:

10, 12, 14 & 17mm spanners
Crosshead screwdriver No 2
Hex keys 4, 5 & 6mm
Pliers
RAC membership card

Anything worth having that's big enough to undo the rear spindle probably won't go under the seat, so I wouldn't bother with it for your carry around tools, though perhaps you could find room for a suitable adjustable of good quality, ie something with jaws that are something like parallel.
