I know that the standard horn location on my SV1000S K3 is directly between the rad and the engine, and its a common problem when the engine and rad get hot for the horn to stop working. I bet iyour horn worked fine once the bike had been left to cool down for half an hour or so.
I fitted a stebel magnum horn inside the right hand fairing (in front of the radiator cap). The steering damper clears it by 10mm. Nice and loud, and can't be seen as it is quite large comapred to the standard one.
You don't need a relay to run the stebel magnum.
