Because, as my customers like to point out on a daily basis - 109,990 of those items were, and I quote 'A pile of s*hite I didn't ask for. It's going straight in the bin'. etc.etc.


You wouldn't believe just how much we process that is a total waste of paper. I am in no way condoning the acts of these people, they are giving us a bad name after all, but we're pressurised from three sides. Postcomm saying stick to our guidelines or else we whack a fine on you, managers wanting more and more hours from a decreasing workforce and cutting hours, and companies churning out dross in the hope they get a 1 in 50 response.

Couple these facts with new competition from other postal services which can do what they like without scrutiny, cherry-picking profitable routes yet have no obligation to cover the whole of the UK and you get into the situation we have. It's almost exclusively new recruits that cause problems, not long termers who have a sense of pride in their work.
