There were many disturbing images beamed around the world on 9/11 and the days shortly afterwards. Personally I am thank full that I did not see first hand some of the terrible carnage and mutilation of so many innocent people.
The planes hitting the towers was for me almost surreal, it appeared more like graphics from a computer game than something that could actually happen to a massive building and a large commercial airliner.
But those jumpers? Oh my that was horrible to witness. Not all made the decision for themselves,as they stumbled in inferno like rooms filled with smoke they simply fell. But there are those that evidently chose the nature of their own demise and even attempted to take that 10 second ride to their own personal destruction by utilising a "graceful" leap. All of which soon turned to nothing due to the affect of the wind as their speed of decent increased.
This was worse to witness than that flicky grey footage of many years ago when an airship took off unexpectedly and a group of sailors held on to the tie ropes in an effort to bring it back down. Unfortunately several of them were carried up and away until their arms tired and they could not hold on anymore.
The curiosity to actually identify the man in the picture being discussed did actually create further pain and suffering for one particular family, who due to their religious beliefs did not want to believe that their family member would commit such a"sin". A terrible additional burden for them to deal with, which they were relieved of after some time when other evidence presented showed that it was not after all their loved one.
America in the aftermath following these events began to have a sense of guilt,at their collective voyeurism as they realised their clamour for information was on reflection nothing more than invasive and they had begun to ponder what many people would be going through, not only as the victims of the falls but the families of those people still unaccounted for. How would anyone feel watching the fall footage over and over again knowing that their husband, wife, brother etc. was still missing but was last seen on the 102nd floor of the WTC North?
Sometimes I do wonder about news coverage. Do we really need to see the graphic details? Does seeing people falling from such a height enrich any of our lives in anyway? I think not, report it by word or print but my thirst for information on events is not at all sated by having such dreadful images invade my home.
Sorry folks,a Little meandering...just my own opinion.
