180 tyre on a 5 inch rim is not ideal. 180 tyres are usually fitted on a 5.5 inch rim. The honda CBR wheel would have had a 160 tyre fitted to it originally. Infact most earlier sports 600's ran 160 rear tyres on 5 inch rims and I beleive it is mainly Suzuki who have put 160 tyres on 4.5 inch rims. In my opinion, I beleive 160's on a 4.5 inch rim are a bit pinched. To illustrate my point: I buy used mini twins racing Supercorsa tyres and they aren't scrubbed to the edge (some look like they might be, but when you peel some of the rubber build up at the edge I usually find at least 5mm of unused tyre). I gave some serious consideration to fitting a TDM900 5 inch rear wheel, because it is the same style as the SV650 original wheel, but I was only going to run a 160 on it (I have now decided to have a go at fitting a 5.5 inch wheel and 180 tyre). A reasonably good road rider will use all the tyre with a 160 on 5 inch rim, and the contact patch will be bigger when leant over. Have a close look at a 160's profile on a 4.5; you can see the contact patch will be smaller when leant over. This is not the case wit a 160 on a 5.0 inch or a 180 on a 5.5 inch.
