1994 when there were only a few million people on it, modem's were 33.3 and you had to pay per minute to connect plus a £20 subscription.

I was 16 and at college, spent a lot of time on ICQ, following that Lycos. I guess i was unusual in that most people back then had never even thought about connecting and the PC boom hadnt started. There was no Google!

I currently use it as a tool and my link to the outside world. No phone line anymore. If i could get decent TV through it i'd just have the broadband connection.
