It seems that the Zuffenhausen boffins are angling an entry into MotoGP. Even without any top flight race team experience you'd have to fancy Porsche to be on the pace once testing was completed. Porsche have an enviable success record in very from of motorsport they've entered, Footwork and Indy shambles aside. Is this VW's way of outflanking BMW as the Teutonic super brands jostle over who's the greatest? At the least more teams means yet more action for MotoGP and maybe even some rather special street bikes trickling into the hand of us mere mortals.
After all any company that can make a crummy Harley engine sing has got to be good at sorting a serious bike engine from scratch!
"Unlike the recent rumours surrounding a BMW MotoGP project, it seems that Porsche built their prototype with no intentions of racing but are now considering it after some R&D work. BMW, on the other hand, built their prototype with racing in mind but now seem more interested in using the bike to progress their technology[source RacerGP mag]"
