I had my bike in gear with someone standing on the rear brake and I had the same problem as Carsick. Like he said a bit of wood through the spokes to stop the wheel turning was the solution. The nut is something like 150Nm which is fecking tight. On my CBR it is 50Nm. Leaving that in gear was enough.
