It tend to agree with you K. The fact that they didnt bow to massive pressure to execute this man, and instead saw sense and spared him his life albeit in return for a life in a small cell, shows that they are indeed capable of making intelligent decisions.

My estimation of the American system and beleifs has gone up somewhat following this.
