Let me present an objective view given that I have both of them.
It's ugly.
Eye of the beholder and all that. I like the look of them.
It doesn't handle
Sorry, wrong. Just plain wrong. I've gone round the outside of "race rockets" at the end of the start/finish straight of Snetterton on a 12 year old 600SS.
The most common mechanical mod on an SV is how to upgrade the suspension and I'm looking to change my rear shock.
The motor is crap and noisey.
More overall power from the SV, more bottom end from the SS. It's not the motors that are noisy, it's the exhaust - and for most people, the noiser the better.
Everyone has one.
I think there are more SVs around than SSs.
Over priced.
Yep - can't disagree with this one. They are too expensive new, and too expensive second hand.
Expensive to maintain.
Not true. This only applies to the Superbikes that habitually need expensive rocker repairs. The only incremental maintenance item is cambelt changes every two years but that can be a diy job.
The big difference between the two is that the SV can be used for daily riding, rain or shine. Because of that, it's the best bike if you can have only one. But don't kid yourself - the SS is the superior bike.
I guess this is on the SV forum though so I would expect a little bias.
