Reading this reminded me of exactly how I felt just under a year ago (OMG how time flies!). I'd done exactly the same thing, bought the bike before even starting the DAS, and had to go through the agonys of having it sit in the garden staring at me. Funnily enough my bikes in the fastest colour too, just the same as your's
A year down the line I've spent a fair bit of money on her (In bits and petrol :P ), come off her once (

), and covered 7,500 miles in most types of weather in appropriate and inappropriate clothing, and I'm loving her just as much today as I did the first time I rode her.
I'm sure you'll have a great time riding on your new toy

Don't worry about the training too much, it'll all come in time, and don't sweat the U turns, the test may be the last time you do one properly :P
