For the first time since getting the bike from new (August 05), I decided to increase the front preload by one notch after seeing my weight on the scales

The front end seems to feel a bit better (more sure footed), but last night it felt almost as it the front wheel slipped a TINY bit in a couple of bends in great conditions. Should I adjust the rear preload too or should I wind the forks back a little? I'm assuming that only adjusting one has no real change to the geometry - right or wrong please?
