As SS says, also the idle quality will affect how much rattle and clatter you hear when you pull the clutch in/out.

Obviously check the oil level first!

Try balancing the carbs carefully, and make sure the idle speed is right (1300 +/-100rpm), make sure both cylinders are running properly (check the spark plugs, HT leads, coils etc.)
