Default Starting issue

Hi guys. I have just tried to fire the bike up after being in the garage all winter and it wouldn’t fire. The battery had died as I forgot to leave it plugged into the trickle charger, so I left it on again for a week and no joy. I just changed the battery for a new one and it still wouldn’t fire, just a single click. When I undid the heated grips and the trickle charger it fired up straight away and was fine. Do you think this is a fuse issue? Or is having 3 things contacting the battery causing it? The garage fit my last battery when I put the r1 shock on the back as it needed the battery box moving up and a smaller battery fitting. One of the grips didn’t work after that either. Sorry for the long write up! It’s a 2004 pointy

I take it the heated grips weren't actually switched on when you tried to start the bike?

No they were off. They only have + and - buttons. One of the grips didn’t work after changing my bars when I had a riser kit installed come to think of it, was quite a while ago now so that’s probably unrelated

If it wouldn't start with grips and charger connected I'd be starting there, particularly if one of the grips doesn't work. I'm wondering if there's a short circuit there, robbing the battery.

I agree with Gary. It might be best for now to remove the grips and their wiring as it's starting to warm up into Spring. If then the bike runs OK you can address the grips problem later

Cheers guys I’ll leave them off. If one isn’t working I suppose they are pointless anyway.
