Hi
I've been lurking here for a while and found it very useful, but now I need your help ![]() I am a new rider, and got myself a SV650SK3 after I passed my test. I've enjoyed riding and learning, but it probably hadn't been started for about a week. I have two issues and I'm not sure if they are linked. On the recommendation of some friends, I fitter a scottoiler today - and now the bike won't start! The engine turns until the battery flattens, will keep turning on a jump start, I have a spark, and I can smell petrol through the exhaust. I have checked the "Dealer Mode" and get c00......... any ideas? - cos I'm flat out of them. ![]() Also - when I tried to bump it in 2nd, I couldn't push the bike with the clutch in...is this a normal interlock kind of thing or is it more likely the clutch is out of adjustment? |

Not sure about the non-staring issue, but with the clutch...they do drag when the bike is cold, I cant push my bike when its cold, in gear and with the clutch pulled in, and my dads bike (GSXR750) is noticibly harder to push when cold, in gear and with the clutch pulled in. If the clutch needs adjusting, you'll realise that as there would be alot of free play at the lever

That's one relief - couldn't understand how that had happened, but I'd never needed to push it in gear before.

I think its because theres very little oil between the clutch plates (as its all dripped down into the sump) so the plates are against each other as it may be, hence sort of engaged

Also why you get quite a bang on engaging first gear in the cold.
As for the non starting, don't keep the starter spinning too long, bike starters are delicate and expensive! I know you can smell fuel, but are the plugs getting wet?

The not starting could be that you havnt put the pipe on right, if the pipe is off then there will be an issue with the engine not pulling fuel right. Though i wouldnt have thought that would stop it running as it should still fire on one cylinder at least.
You didnt accidentally knock any electrics when you were routing the sucktion pipe over the ECU? Quite an odd one, as if it is imobilized or kill switch on etc mine wont even turn over! ![]() |

Plugs don't seem wet, but do smell of petrol, and it is also coming through the can. |

After my alarm took a dump and intermittantly went into "immobilized" mode, I got rid of it. A real pain in the ass at Saturday midnight, 10mi from home, in a very dodgy neighborhood, when it shuts your bike down while you're riding it, and won't let you restart no matter what. Had to push the bike to the nearest garda station and wait 2hrs for the recovery van...
Anyway, back on topic... Once you've eliminated the alarm, I'd double-check -- the vacuum connection, and everything near it. -- the electrics, including all the fuses, and don't forget the main fuse. -- the fuel from the tank, make sure nothing is crimped or bent. -- spark (though you say you've got spark, so that's good.) -- the air filter, air breather hoses, or anything in/around the airbox - make sure it's breathing, that the choke isn't stuck, etc. Logically, if you've got spark, fuel, and air, you should be running ![]() |

When you fitted the oiler what did you move/remove from the bike to get to all the bits you needed to?
