Default more horses please

hi everyone,at the moment my k3 is stored up for the winter taking in a well earned rest.over the time ive had it ive spent loads on it, but mostly on cosmetic stuff.

as far as so called perfomance parts go it only has a k&n air filter and blueflame coloured titanium (trioval)end can.

has anybody got a few suggestions what could be done to it to gain a few more horses?

how much it would cost

power gains i could expect&.

Engine tuning is a big money pit that is very definitely a diminishing returns thing.

A race filter and a full system will liberate a few ponies when mapped right for it, TRE mod maybe a little more.
Thats about it without going daft.

Have you got a figure in mind for how much extra BHP your after ? Have you considered the implications on your insurance ?

Do a search on boring out the engine to 700 or 750cc can be done, but is expensive for what you get back and you risk from what I've read lunching the bottom end if its not done right.

If it were me I'd just buy a bigger bike, ( which is exactly what I did )

I'm not sure how much you could expect to see from a different exhaust cam, you get conflicting reports, but that'd be fairly cheap if you went with the carbed model intake cam in the exhaust side. When I've got them, I usually sell these for £50 the pair, Other than that, the others are spot on, you can add a few bhp but you can't add a huge amount without stressing the engine, and an 80bhp SV feels very similiar to a 70bhp one to ride. Unless you enjoy doing the work (I do) it doesn't make a lot of sense to do significant work to an SV. Induction tuning (filters and exhausts) is relatively expensive for an injected one as well.

On the other hand, a dab of suspension work is IMO entirely justifiable and sensible, the SV's weakest point is the suspension after all. I guarantee you if you took 2 SVs, one of them with my engine, exhaust etc and the other with my suspension, it'd be the one with the suspension that was the faster. And even a small investment can really pay off.

IMHO no, Power Commander is expensive. You can get the standard ECU remaped or get a Yoshi box which does the remap but doesnt give you as much adjustability as the PC does, but its nowhere near expensive. But I still wouldnt do it.

I agree with Northwind, spend the money on the suspension instead.

A remap of the stock would be worth it IMO, as it gets the fuelling spot on and makes it easier to get power down.
Much more than a filter, system and remap is too far.
