Na, your right, its got a cbr600 rear shock. Best to ask what model CBR the shock came from. I guess anything can be made to fit if you use the right sized hammer

I'd rather buy a shock that would bolt straight in, like an Ohlins or something specifically made for the SV mounting points.

I agree with Matt (alpinestarhero), I have had an Ohlins rear shock in my curvy for the past 4 years and can't believe the difference it has made to the bike. Riding a standard again will take a long time to get used to, and can be scary. You will have to get the front looked at too, otherwise its a waste of time.

Dave, where did you get your shock from and how much was it? Im considering getting the front fork interls upgraded (ohlins linear springs is what I want, i think) and obviously I'll need a matching upgrade for the rear shock (i think the standard one is getting tired at 23,000 miles anyway)

What are my options for rear shocks?

Matt

He must be using standard mounting points, dogbones the lot, else it would be illegal under Minitwins regulations ... this is presuming the bike is legal spec ...

Oh and how heavy are you Matt? If you are >12st, then the 03/04 ZX636 shock drops straight in (ish) If you are a <12st whippet, then the GIXER ones are a better spring weight match ...

its a Cbr600rr shock with a adapter made up to convert the bottom eye to a fork, purely done because they had some spare shocks

Matt

I got my Ohlins from Harris Performance I think, a long time ago now and cost £349.99 (I think thats still very cheap). Talk to JHS Racing (www.jhsracing.co.uk) they are the SV specialists and sell most, if not all, options for the SV's suspention. I am hearing good words about Elka shocks, think JHS are the importers too. I don't work for them before anybody asks, they just do a fantastic job!!!

I have Hyperpro progressive springs in the front which was done by K-tech also a few years ago, oh... I have a GSXR front end though. JHS again can give you the info on what to do for an SV fork, they do fork upgrade packages for the pre '02 models (including fitting preload adjusters on the '99-'00 bikes). Ohlins springs seem the most common slot in type I have seen/heard.

Shocks: Ohlins, Elka, Nitron, Maxton, WP, Hyperpro, Penske
Forks: Ohlins, Hyperpro, WP, Racetech

Dave

Erm surely racetech for forks?
and Hyperpro do some excellent shocks.

there's also matris for forks and shocks (soon to do curvy forks too)

No pics im afraid, its just a block that bolts on to the eye with some shaping to stop it twisting

Indeed, Racetech needs to be added to the list.

I have racetech springs and emulators in the front of my curvy trackbike, bearing in mind how little* is actually changed, its quite increasable the difference between stock and the racetech set-up!!

*its not like you rip the innards completely out and start again as with cartridge inserts, you just drill some holes, slide the emulator in (that is about the size of a medium sized mushroom) and new springs ...
