Default Testing the water

Due to circumstances blah blah blah I may be selling the bike, its a 2001 blue and red curvey with 27,000 on the clock, 2 previous owners, mot,d till sept and taxed till oct I think, the bikes fairly standard apart from a fuel exhaust and the two tone colour scheme. apart from a bump start on the NW3 the bike has never let me down. The only downside is an occasional slightly sticky first gear, but it is only occasional and tbh its not a big deal and doesnt cause any problems really, Im not sure what its worth .

Should have added that the bike has never been down the road since Ive had it but it was previuosly owned by plowsie and I think it was dropped, plus he also ran himself over with it as well however theres no damage that I can see, although there is a bit of scuffing on the fairings which I actually bought from another forum member in that condition cos I was going to respray it.

I’m going to be in the market in about 6 weeks, so for the last week or two I’ve been looking at ads to get a feel for what is a good deal and what to look for. You are a bit far from me and will almost certainly have sold before I’m going to be able to buy so I hope you appreciate that I’m trying to be as impartial as I can.

In its present condition, I reckon you should start by advertising it for around 1600 to start with, but be prepared to drop to 1400 if you are in a rush to sell it.

The mileage is a little high compared to a lot of other bikes of that year I’ve seen - less of an issue if you have FSH or can provide evidence of ongoing maintenance though – and it does at least show that its been ridden.

I think the mix and match fairings - would set a few alarm bells ringing in a lot of buyers - its the kind of thing that tends to make me think the worst about the bike’s history. I’ve been going through quite a few ads recently, and whenever I see things like that I tend to skip quickly to the next ad without giving the bike a fair look – a little irrational I’ll admit but there you go.
Its probably not economical to get them colour matched, but if I was looking at that bike, knowing that it had just been fully serviced, had just passed a MOT, and had any little gremlins like the sticky gear ironed out, it might well be enough to make me overlook that issue and would be worth a lot to me. That might push the price closer to 1700-1800. So if its economical for you to do that and you have the time, I’d seriously consider doing it if I were you.

Hope that helps
