So, i've done a years worth of miles on the bike and it's time to do a small service, (oil, filter, air filter, plugs) and i was wondering, as i'm gonna buy the bits anyway is it worth buying a 'race filter' with a standard can on? or should i just buy a can, service it (with the 'race' stuff)? If i do that will ineed to rejet the carbs? help please

Nothing at all wrong with the OEM filters. RandyO on SVRider got 140K miles using standard dealer service, OEM filters and oil.
I put on a Scorpion for looks, like the sound. The bit of power increase you get from a full system, "racing" air filter, even cam change, could be better achieved by losing 10 pounds if you are heavy, as I am. Going with the Scorpion SS Extreme lost 5.6 pounds over the OEM can, probably the cheapest weight saver you can buy. Other slip on cans will give you similar results. Get the end can, I just got mine (Fuel) and over the moon with the difference it makes (not necessarily performance wise but the sound....)
