Ok so I test rode a gsxr600k7 today at street bike in Halesowen, the last super sport 600 I rode was a 1998 cbr600 so I was keen to see the differences between the two with a decade of development between them.
First off WOW its light 163kg to be precise and WOW its small, the little 600 feels like a 125 compared to the big 1000 “V” twin ive been used to. I pulled off the stealer ship forecourt like a 70year old who had just purchased his brand new rover 25, gingerly as I go up to the first big island out side the dealers tips it in left and squeezes the throttle in 2nd up to about 40mph, first impressions “god its noisy” a mixture of stubby standard zuky exhaust and induction roar under my fuel tank. The kind sales lady told me I had an hour on the gixer but at my own risk because in her words “if u bend it you mend it” L so off I went in search of some open roads and some good islands hehe! Right’o the first bit of open road and I give her a fist full in 2nd, 3rd, 4th oh my god! Under powered I don’t think so! I think I will be able to corner up to 50% faster on the little gixer nimble aint the word! Its so tiny and agile it goes where you point it! I am so used to man handling the big thou it’s been like walking a 4stone rottweiler and you trying to get it to go the way you want it to go, the sv1000s was the first bike ive ever got my knee down on so it cant be that bad a handling bike can it? What’s on my mind is what’s the little gixer capable of? Within 10 minuets I was right at home on the Suzuki being able to put it anywhere on the road I choose, the biggest difference which is to be expected is the difference between the V twin engine and the IL4 engine configurations, while the big V twin will pull in 3rd up a hill exceeding 100 before needing to change gear the little gixer needs 2nd to about 7,000rpm then a quick shift up the 3rd to do the same kind of thing, this isn’t a problem as I was grinning like a Cheshire cat all the while the IL4 was screaming! On a steady 40mph bimble in built up areas I noticed I was sitting on 4,000rpm and the engine sounded quite high reving where as the big thou V twin would be plodding at just over tick over doing the same feeling quite snatchy too, my eyes glanced at the cockpit of the gixer looking round at the rpm clock foooookin ell 16,000 rpm to the redline! I wonder that that sounds like! Staying with the **** pit of the gixer, a digi gear indicator which is useful as I’m forever not knowing what gear I’m in, the whole sporty look and feel really floated my boat as I class my self as a rider that like’s a sweet handling machine and am not too bothered if it wont go 200mph! At the end of the test ride I pull up at out side the shop and swing my leg off the young pup and grin again “ bloody hell this things light” “so smooth reving” “so sharp on the handling I haven’t ridden anything like it before” “so much grip from its standard tyres” “So easy to ride” so guess what? I HAD TO BUY IT! A small amount of bargaining with the nice lady in store saw me get the gsxr for £5144 inc a full service, valet and a spare data tool alarm fob because there was only one with this machine for some reason? Its screen price was £5500 so not a bad deal really, it’s a one owner bike on a 07 plate registered July last year so only just 1 year old with only 1300 miles on the clock. Someone else run it in for me yayyy! |

my reasons for testing the little 600 were insurance, my riding history is pushing up my premiums and at 36 i hate getting shafted for insurance.

its a blue and white one with blue wheels, all standard apart from a datatool series 4 alarm, all it needs is a kwak clean.
