Default Taking the road less travelled.

I had one of the best rides I've ever had today.

I got up this morning a bit flat (unusual for me) and the sun was shining so the bike was the obvious choice. I wasn't in the mood for scratching so a bit of exploring was in order.

I ended up on the B6270 that heads to Kirby Stephen from Richmond having got to Leyburn via Masham from Ripon.

The road starts as a lot of twisites as you head up the valley following the Swale up as it gets smaller and smaller. It then turns into a smaller road that just leads from one breathtaking view to the next. If you're anywere near the national Speed limit you could consider it scratching. The road linsk little village to little village all the way up the valley.

As I headed up the valley in glorious early Spring sunshine and endless visibility it was refreshing for the soul to drink in the constantly dazzing views. It made me feel lucky to be alive. It has to be one of the most beautiful places in the UK. From waterfalls to cliffs to valleys to moors it had it all. The further I headed up the road the less High speed internet and computers were from my mind. It was like driving back in time to a simpler life.

Its a fairly bumpy road so you might want to back off the rear preload by a notch and just pootle over to the other side. Plan on it taking at least an hour to do the the 35 miles. Add on another hour and a half if you take the camera. i would have stopped at least 50 times on the way over had I had my camera with me.

At the other end I snaked down along side the M6 yet half way up a mountain to kendal and then over to sedgburgh and then to Devils bridge through more fantastic countryside to and then headed back over through Hawes and Middleham back home.

I'll try put the route on Google maps in case anyone fancies following it. Choose a clear day, don't have anything to rush back for an enjoy one of the little undiscovered gems of the UK countryside.

What a superb day!

C

Sounds great. Can't beat nice spring days out in the countryside. I envy you.

Did that road a couple of years back Carl, pretty much stumbled upon it. There is some breath taking scenery up there.

I travelled from Castleford over to Bridlington, up to Scarborough to Whitby before coming along the top home. Was blowing a gale and I was sideways going in a straight line. Cant wait for the better weather to come along.
