Unhappy Possible engine damage?

I feel very ashamed right now, got the bike out today and thought id give the oil level a check, no oil showed so i thought ok top it up no biggy, it needed almost a litre of oil . No idea how it has lost this much as i checked only a month ago and it was still showing on the glass.

How can i tell if any damage has been done, or is it a case of wait and see? Am i likely to has damaged my engine?

Cheers.

wait and see

My SV got realy low 3 years ago when i was on holiday in spain, i had to lean the bike the oposite way to even get it on the low mark, its still running now. It all depends on how low and how long. So its a wait and see thing, but you may be lucky.

Possibly depends how low it went.

Its well documented on this forum that SV dont like being run low on oil, its also well documented that some engine use oil and require regular checking.

If it starts, runs, doesnt put blue smoke out the exhaust and isnt accompanied by knocking, clanging, thumping type noises from the bottom end of the engine, then I would think you'd be OK.

I'd suggest that you also check your oil more frequently than once a month as well. It should be part of your routine daily or weekly checks.
