Default battery top up

Hi,

Just a thought is the original battery for sv650sk5 gel filled or does it need toping up with distilled water from time to time ? I have Bells Palsy at the moment and not sure how long I've got before I can ride bike again , therefore thinking about getting a battery charger and may be topping up fluid if not a sealed battery.

Cheers

I think they all come with sealed gel filled bats as standard but if you whip the front seat off you should be able to tell easily enough, if not post a pic of the bat here and someone will advise you accordingly i'm sure.

Had to look up your condition, sounds ,like no kind of fun Sorry to hear it.

Good morning.

All SV's have a sealed lead acid battery that doesn't require topping up. Unless someone has fitted an old style battery of course.
As said you can tell by looking at it.

Cheers.

Oh no, bells palsy. the superbike racer Chris Walker had this some years ago, he tried various treatments and found acupuncture was somewhat succesful. Get well soon

Acupuncture does sweet **** all for Bells Palsy other than provide an elaborate placebo effect. The only treatment that has any effect is prednisolone and even then it needs to be given in the early stages. Only real cure is time.

Cheers for the replies

battery is the original therefore will be a sealed lead acid that won't need topping up which is good news

Bells Palsy sucks , at least I have something in common with Stalker , he must have had balls of steel riding with Bells , I can't close my left eye and my other eye is not great either.

I hope it goes quickly as looking outside at the sunshine I would murder for a blast on my sv

Take care all and give your sv's some berrys for me

Cheers Steveg

You do need a trickle charger like Optimate to keep the battery maintained while not in use though.Neglected batteries are never quite the same again, and at £50 a shout are well worth looking after.

+1 for optimate. Otherwise stick them on a normal charger once a fortnight or so to be sure.
