Default exhaust and insurance

Rang up the insurers today to ask about whether fitting a new exhaust would affect my quote. They said that if it provided an increase in power then they would not insure. So my question is..

1) would a street extreme provide an increase in power (or an increase worth telling insurers about)
2)if it did give an increase is there a way of still being insured with the can whilst still using my current insurer?

Cheers

contact the can makers and ask them, if you change and don't declare it, then have an off you can bet that if the insurance company won't pay out.

That was my thoughts.....but its whether to declare a power increase or not. There is not specific info on the can on the scorpion site, it jus says POWER. however on another site it claims a 6-8% increase.....?

you'll probably find with just swapping the can over you gain nowt-wait till yc/spannerman comment then take that as near as gospel

Yeah that is true, the one site that gave an indicated figure was of 6-8% which on restriction is roughly 1.4 bhp?! if that, which is sod all. OK cool.

Most"can" swops i.e. ones that are legal may need a bit more fettling to increase the power as the can change itself will only give a minute increase in any performance,so little that you probably will not even notice it My rule of thumb being that if the can is sold as "Road Legal" it is usable if only for cosmetic purpose, providing you haven't changed anything else on the engine like mapping, cams, and induction. Would you inform your insurance if you change tyres? Changing a complete exhaust system is different

I am restricted and have a stubby Beowulf can.

I just put down aftermarket can - no power increase.

But as husky says, wait for the grease monkeys to tell you properly..

FYI - The Scorpion Street Extreme is NOT a performance enhancing can. It is simply a slip on, requires no re-mapping etc and provides no boost. So it is fine. So therefore, don't worry about it and enjoy the lovely loud noise it makes.

Worth mentioning that if it's a restricted bike then even the most performance system will probably make fsck all difference, my 700 (full system, BMC filter etc) with a set of restricted carb slides struggled to make 34BHP, it's making just short of 80 with full power slides.

On a derestricted bike I would have thought there'd be a chance they'd be able to wriggle out of paying out for a claim with a power increase argument. To avoid that situation entirely I'd just go the otherway and tell them it's road legal (providing it is), don't even mention power.
