Default Ban the vuvuzelas?

Anyone else bothered by these trumpets constantly droning throughout world cup matches?

If so you can join the facebook group or sign the petition.

I heard a bit of the game last night on the radio (I popped into the garage where my housemate was working).
That would drive me to stabbing someone, the noise was horrific. How the hell do they expect anyone to play under those conditions?

Spread the word guys and girls. They even have the sound off in the pub there's been that many complaints.

Surely the tv sound engineers can find a way of filtering this out. Or we can pray that someone throws one onto the pitch.

Perhaps muting the environmental sounds entirely. The matches are watched live and therefore they try to capture the sense of the stadium whilst there.

Or put a limiter on the db range of the environmental sounds and that could help...saying that it doesnt help when the volume of the TV you are watching at is high, such as the volume in pubs.

The vuvuzelas are given out free over here by the petrol stations so be grateful you dont have to endure that delight!

They wont be banned from use as they are a traditional instrument from South Africa and so banning them would cause a lot more harm then good.

Saying all of that..... "anything above the 100 decibel level is injurious to the health of the human inner ear for longer than a period of 15 minutes. Air-horns average 123.6dbs and a drum has an upper range of 122dbs. The referees’ whistle has an average of 121.8dbs. The vuvuzelas however weigh in at a hefty 127dbs!"

So yes vuvuzelas are infact very damaging to the hearing of anyone in close range for more then 15 mins.

I think they don't do it entirely because of Anna said, they're trying to capture the ambient sound in the stadium, and unfortunately the flippin' things are a major part of it. To me it sounds like they're playing inside a hornets' nest or something, it's insane.

That said, a very steep notch filter at 250 Hz or thereabouts (I don't have the measuring equipment on me to check the precise frequency band), together with 3 more at x2, x3 and x4 the original frequency band should do the trick. Don't be surprised if the commentators sound a bit funny after that, though...

Yeah I don't think they are going to ban something because it is annoying.
Unfortunately no amount of filtering with eq is going to get rid of them, just make it sound different.

I have been watching a lot games and you just manage to tune it out after while. Unfortunately the pitch is so far away from the stands that there's no chance of getting one on the pitch. I didn't hear the England supporters band people yesterday either...although there weren't much to shout about were there?

I've had to stick all the games on mute so far, I can't deal with that noise!

It makes the game very eerie, normally there is ups and downs in the noise depending on what is going on on the pitch, in this world cup there is just a constant drone no matter what is going on.

You also can't hear any chanting or singing which ruins the atmosphere.

If anyone brings one to the Molineux next season I know where it'll get stuck.
