But the S1 Pro so bloody hard to find in a shop to try on first, I will probably just go local, try a Shoei XR-1100 and save £100-150.
So- I wanted a quiet lid with a drop down sun visor. Schuberths are so expensive that most shops only do them to order now, as the turnover is so slow, according to a couple of shops I've tried. So- I'm going to end up with a quiet lid and a pair of shades/spare dark visor I suppose... Oh well- I'm sure I'll be happy! |

Black visor looks cooler.

Yeah- but I've been caught out a few times this year without a change of visor. It's just one less thing to carry around with you!

There's shops have the C-3 on the shelf. But it was the S1 Pro I was looking at, due to the described features....

Aren't Schuberth the ones that make your head look like Krytons (Red Dwarf)?

Before you contemplate a C3 (though it looks like you're not, but still) you might read through this review thread
I've had an S1 for about 4yrs now and I've been reasonably happy with it. The sizing is a bit odd so you really do need to try one on for fit, I found it a little hard on the forehead but I "eased" it slightly and it's comfy enough. The internal sunvisor is great I must say, they come as an "aviator" style cutout out of the box, but you can just unclip it, turn it over, and you now have a straight edge. I tend to use it as a shade rather than a visor, it stays where you put it, doesn't drop down. The S1 had a treated visor which was supposed to be anti-fog, but the coating peels off and is utter carp, a well known issue. The S1 Pro at least has a Pinlock. They are reasonably quiet, but still not so quiet that you don't need earplugs out of town. Overall quality I'd put a little behind Arai/Shoei, but still pretty good. Is there an Infinity near you?

Cheers Embee.
I think, after some deliberation, that I'm going to save the cash and try out an XR-1100. The drop down visor would be a definite plus, but I don't think it's worth £150+ more (sadly, the out of season colours are now only available online for XL and XXL...). I could pop up to Infinity in Clapham- they have a couple of S1 Pro's left on the shelf, but I think I'm gonna save the cash. Plus, my Brother has had an XR1100 for a good few months now and recommends it. |

DP rates shoei, and he should know, he's tried all aspects of their safety design
