Default Calling .org medics....

Hi to all the doctors and nurses of the .org.

Was wondering if someone could please explain 'bi-caudate ratio' to me please.
I've googled it and the results may aswell be written in chinese for all the sense they make.

If you need more info please pm me.

Thanks, KJ x

It is a calculation based on the width of part of the "core" of the brain (caudate nuclei) against the actual width of the brain at that point. Normally checked using a MRI scan.

Generally used to determine cognitive motor illnesses.

Not a Doc but have knowledge of CT scanners, Linear Accelerators, Tomotherapy, mammography and MRI imaging.

Thanks Bik3r.

The reason im asking is that I've had a couple of MRI's and CT's recently and I saw my BCR on a letter from one consultant to another and just couldn't work out the significance, but it looked quite important.

I'd ask my consultant but they're not the easist people to get hold of. Last week I had a couple of CT venograms, before and after lumbar puncture under xray and whilst I've seen the findings on the discharge form, I've had no feed back from either consultant as to what it all means. Very frustrating!!

KJ, like B1k3R I'm not a medic so can't give you anything definitive and nor would I for fear of causing you unnecessary stress. BCR is used to help diagnose a whole raft of things so picking one thing wouldn't help you.

I work with medics and can ask but I would recommend you actually ask for an appointment with the Consultant, and maybe ask if you can either take someone with you or have a patient liason go in with you.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Maybe its coz you're female... and its a small brain thing

Just trying to make you smile.

Thanks Bri, don't worry, i'm smiling!!

I'm not trying to self-diagnose, I know what my condition is, I'm just trying to learn as much as possible about it, as fellow sufferers are few and far between, and I find the biology fascinating!!

I'm in the hands of the best guys in the country, and whilst others have to travel far to see them i'm lucky to have them just down the road.
I'm no way dissatisfied with them, just impatient to finally get some proper treatment. I just want to be as clued up as possible when I see them again to make sure I'm asking all the right questions.

This is my head they're messing with and the female brain can be a very complex thing you know xx

No problems KJ. I am not qualified to diagnose nor would I suggest medical diagnoses by forum.

The good thing is that the quacks are looking at all sorts of tests to get the best information possible. A lot of this will be to rule out a lot of things. It is amazing what sorts of diagnosis goes on behind the scenes and some of the technology is amazing. The imaging side is rather spooky. Part of my work is working with these these big machines and I can assure you that there are a lot of very good quality people working for the NHS if that is the way you are going.

For me, some thing I get involved with are very peculiar. Part of a report I submitted today was discussing nipple tattooing after mastectomies.

I was stunned when I saw the quality of my MRIs, it was absolutely fascinating. I havent seen the CTs from last week but I'd love to see them and have them explained, they are obviously invaluable to making a proper diagnosis.

My boyfriend left the hospital complaining about the £15 car park ticket, but I was more than happy to pay up given the cost of the equipment used on me!!

I'd love to get into nursing/ radiography but on my own with 3 young children its just not feasible at the moment
