Default Blis

Just seen a TV advert for the new Volvo which features BLIS (blindspot information system) I was interested as to what it actually was so googled it. Here's how it works - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpkRHnaJ1aY

Quite a simple idea really, but still a good safety feature that should save a few lives!

why not just fit blind spot mirrors for £1

Guarantee some one will be become reliant on it, it will stop flashing and they'll cause an accident.

Saves the old people from pulling their neck/back muscles lol plus when you look over your shoulder to check your blind spot the car infront might slam the brakes on or a kid might run out on the road ect.

Quite a simple idea, but to actually pull it off and the software involved to make it work is unbelievably complex. I work for the company that makes the system to sell to Volvo.

That's why Volvo market it as an "aid" so they can't be sued if you crash. It is, however, pretty good and it "fails safe". This means that you will get a false reading (indicating someone is in your blind spot area) rather than no reading. If also has an alert if the system stops working for some reason.

It all sounds great but I'd still rather people used their own amazing collision avoidance technology because our eyes are pretty damn good if you think about it...
