Default Honest opinions wanted on this for a possible track day bike.

Morning guys. As per my introduction post I'm looking for an sv to use for track day fun. Looking for some cheap thrills so happy to run a standard bike with a BB plastics race fairing until funds & experience allow possible tweaks. I know nothing about sv's, have never owned one (had a blast on my mates 05 plate sv1000) but my knowledge on these is limited.

Came across this on fleabay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-SUZUKI-SV...item3cb652172b

After honest opinions please? Can spin a spanner doing routine jobs but definitely no race mechanic. Cheers, Robbo

Cheers mate. These bikes easy to fettle with, oil, plugs, filters, carbs etc...?

Who said anything about caning it, you've not seen me ride

very easy-i went from complete novice to being able to rebuild complete bike.
Contact carl(berlin) about the minitwin thing-he spent a fortune on a curvy , then went for a pointy.

I would factor in the cost of a new (smaller) exhaust and some new raised pegs... otherwise you will just be scrapping around from what I have seen.

Potential money pit.

wait for an ex race bike to come along, a curvey will be fine. These can be had for less than a grand and will come with useful stuff like wets on wheels and some essential spares like handlebars and levers.

also the suspension on the road bike is terrible, even for a novice trackdayer.

an ex race bike will have a shock and fork internals for the job.

steer well clear of cheap road stuff IMO for use on the track. To even get it to a half decent standard you'd spend a grand and more.

there's alot more parts and spares for the 03 onwards bikes. if you can stretch for 1500 it'd be a better purchase and easier for spares.

he's right, a stock bike is fine for the road bu you'll feel its limits fairly soon on the track. You'd be better buying one with some suspension twiddles already. You don't have to have wets etc. unless you're someone who likes a van full of gear.

Buy it! You can see he's fed up of being a hack and he want's to be a track stallion!

say you get it for £450. Get a hagon rear shock for £250 or do the GSXR conversion. A set of front springs and some 20 weight Oil for another £100

Then attack it and make sure the folowing are sorted
Brake calipers
rear suspension bearings
head bearings

and you're ready to go! A track bike for less than £750

and that's leaving it so you can ride it there and ride it back. If you take off the lights, indicators, fairings etc you could sell them to pay for the shock!

A track bike is something to have fun on riding around a track. Its not a race bike. It doesn't have to go as fast as possible. Hell, you could buy it and put it straigt on the track. OK so you might find the limits quickly but isn;t that the point? If you find the limits, THEN it is time to start buying new parts.

Go for it If you don't I'll buy it and strip it!
