I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! - SV650.org

A couple of weeks ago on a dark, narrow, damp, country lane a fox ran into the brake caliper on the front wheel, I was going very slow, the impact turned the wheel as I braked by instinct and over we went. Minor tumble but it bent and split the rad, cracked the fairing, broke the gear lever, indicator and mirror and scratched the plastics. I also suspected the forks were twisted.

Insurance job.

I learned yesterday that it's a write off!!! It's 10 months old!!!

The repair estimate is £2700. The main bits are Rad and mountings, Fairing and mountings, Headlight and mountings, left fork, gear lever and bar,clutch lever pegs etc.

So how much should I argue for on the offer? 3,700 miles on the clock, as original spec with fender extenda, data tool system 3 alarm , immac condition?

What things should I mention and where can I get evidence to support my argument?

What did you tell them it was worth?

You won't get any more than that figure, so push for as close to that as possible. The bike was less than a year old, and really the closest you're going to get to replacing it is buying a new one - there will be very few on the market of the same quality. You *should* be able to argue and get close to this figure - but you will have to argue.

Assuming you gave them the Suzuki Retail Price when you set up your insurance, they'll think that your bike is worth close the £5000 new. Seeing as at this time of year you can pick up a "S" for a push over £4000, you should still be able to replace your bike with a new one.

Yes it was priced as £5000 Standard retail price

See what they offer you, remind them that it had a £300 alarm fitted...

I think that if they make you an offer, or you can get it up to £4500, then you'll be able to replace the bike with a K4 straight away... realistically I reckon you should aim for the £4000 mark though and push them as far as you can go - at the end of the day, the bike was insured to a valuee of £5000 - that's what you paid for, they've written it off... so £5000 please!

Sorry to hear about your fox incident. Sounds like your sv will make a cracking track bike for someone!!
I don't know what sort of price they're doing but Woodford Motorcycles (in...erm....Woodford) are a shining example of what a dealer should be like. I'd even be happy to pay a bit more to know I was going to get looked after if something went wrong.

immac condition? That might be stretching it a bit now!

Maybe you could take the alarm off the bike for your new one?

Cant you check your motor insurance policy and see if it entitles you to a replacement? Sometimes on a policy if the vehicle is less then 12 months old and your the first keeper, they will replace with a brand new bike rather than get you market value.

Otherwise if you need evidence for a valuation just use newspaper clipping and print off adverts on the web of other SV's similiar to yours that are been sold. This is the finest way to prove this is exactly how much you need to get a new bike same as your old one.
