Default engine noise only done 210miles!!

Can anyone help? i've got a new sv650sk4 and its just developed a noise!! started friday about half a mile from home, i do a daily commute of 17 miles each way!! First of was a bit of a judder, i put that down to riding in heavy rain and that water had got in somewhere!! Before anyone asks yes i have been running it in properly!! The noise sounds like bottom end and is slightly better/quieter when i pull the clutch in!! i'll be going back to the dealer on monday, anyone know anything?? thanx Lawrence.

Hi and welcome.

There is a known fault (although this won't be admited by suzuki) with the SV, and that is the front cylinder spark plug can get drowned in heavy rain.

The good news is this is easily fixed - the fitting of a front fender extender will more than likely cure this problem.

Did the dealer forget to put oil in it?

Motorcycles make noise, especially twins, if your only questioning if it's a problem, then it's probably not, if it was a serious where something was really wrong, you would know it and not be riding it trying to figure out what it is

chain and driveline can make alot noise too

So what were you told to do when running the engine in?

Where you told to keep it under certain revs or not long blasts of full throttle?

Le me know - as I'm intrigued as I've been told different things, as I'm also running my k4 in and on the same mileage as yourself

Cheers - Mass

I think embee recommended starting off keeping to the 6000 rpm limit, gradualy increasing engine load. Makes sense to me.

Could be cam chain noise. A known "problem" on the SV. I worried myself on my new K3 (i came from two-strokes and they don't have cam chains ). You could get used to it or install that loud race can (i opted for the latter )[/url]
