Default sv down - disillusioned rider (not me)

Saw an sv at Hiilingdon circus on one of the many pedestrian islands earlier today with the rider standing next to it. I pulled over and went over to see what was the matter and he'd just been taken out by a car turning right in front of him. He's not a member of this forum but knew of it. I offered him a garage for the night for his bike, but he had breakdown cover coming to sort him. Guy seemed OK considering what had happend. He was gone when I went out just now so I guess he was ok. He had been saying it might be time to give up - shame really.

Allways bad news to hear of an off, especially if it makes them want to give up

hope he comes on here, we'll soon change him

It's just the time of year that's all. Near misses go right up, and when one of them becomes a hit, makes you start to wonder if it's worth it. But come the summer time you forget all about the murderous, accident dodging winter you have had to endure. Or at least that's the way it is for me.

Accident with Volvo, shattered collarbone happened in a January.

Bus jumps red lights and I plow into the side of it. Bike written off happened the year after in Febuary.

Slide off bike doing 80 on a motorway slip road. Ooooo lots of damage to self and bike middle of June......................ok scrub the last one

Yup it happens, sometimes people get hurt or scared and they don't want to go through it again.
Family have asked me to promise to give up bikes loads of times. Usually while I'm in a hospital bed, didn't do it, or if I did I claimed that it was the anaesthetic talking not me!
Give up bikes? NEVER, rather quit drinking than biking.

What's that phrase ???

"Sell my bike ? I'd rather put wasps up my @rse"

Hillingdon Circus is a strange place for an accident though, I thought it was all controlled on lights... So either somebody jumped a red, or the biker may have been in the wrong lane (going straight on when traffic was expecting to turn right).

Yep it is controlled, but on the right turn from long lane to join the slip road to go north on A40 / M40 you can go before the filter right arrow lights up, if it's clear (im sure this is legal). So I assume this is what happend. Also just recently this filter right light has been playing up so you go thru the light and wait to turn right but the filter arrow doesn't light up and the traffic begins flowing from your left and right leaving you vulnerable. This has happend to me and the wife a few times - it is an intermittant problem and dangerous.
I don't know if this was a factor but it's possible.

There was a fairly major car on car smash just before Christmas at the same spot - rush hour of course.

Just had the very same problem occur at those lights. Went thru on green to the turn right guide line, then without the filter right light coming on the traffic started flowing from the other directions, causing us to have to go thru a red. I'm getting on to the Council tomorrow - it's really dangerous.

It didn't used to be like this.

had to admit that recently I did think about not getting back on a bike.... did wonder why the hell I was doing it especially after white van man and then the slide in the snow.... think that lasted about one evening... think after rough patches we all have moments of wondering why but I think deep down we know its a passing phase....

Bikings in my blood... to me Im a biker through and through, its something I am not something I do. I cant imagine NOT having a bike anymore or not being on one. Take my bike you take part of my soul, part of me.

Like Iansv said... not gonna quit til Im incapable of riding... just wish I was incapable of crashing at the moment

Mate of mine at the weekend said how much he respected the fact Ive got back on the CBF after 2 accidents in 4 weeks... he knows guys whove had one accident and never got back on.

When I had my gpz, was on my own and didnt have a lot of biking mates who would give me support. Only got back on 3 months later when had to take it to be sold. Moment I pulled away I regretted the 3 months of not being on the bike.

So Ive made a vow that anytime I have an accident I get back on as soon as I possibly can. I got on the CBF 10 days after white van accident - way too soon physically but psychologically I had to.

But that track day at the end of this month and the summer.... oh its so gonna be worth it

Never lose sight of why you got on in the first place and you'll always get back on...
