Hey guys,
I have an SV650S 2002 Model. I decided to take some pics of me on the bike today, I started her up and drove her down my drive. I could tell from that moment something was weird. I hadnt rode my bike in about 4 days and the day before my friend was looking at it, sitting on it, and fidling (Not sure if he could have done something on accident.) It makes this weird sound, cant explain it, I think its a sound that has always been there but its louder and different. Now I usualy ride with my helment on, and today I rode with it off (Maybe that could explain it?) Now I also notice a power shortage, It seems to have lost a lot of "Kick". I had been practicing wheelies and today I couldnt even begin to get one up. The noise I mentioned reminded me of the chain, so I took a look. The chain seems to be resting on a rubber peice, this peice seems to have been groved (by purpose, or by the chain laying on it). I am not sure if its supposed to be touching it!! I have included some pics I am a new bike rider, and dont know much about mechanics. ![]() Here you can see the chain rubbing agasint whatever that is, rubber? ![]() Here you can see me lifting up the chain, can you see the groves? ![]() Same as above, you can see the groves better. Again, the sound is similar to that of a bicycle chain nosise, but louder. Any help would be great. -Griffe |

I noticed that the first day I had my Pointy K6. That raised nubbin is on mine as well, and the chain is centered on it perfectly (more or less), so I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be there. What I noticed though, is that when you have weight on the swingarm (like a rider) the chain lifts a bit off of the groove.
With all that said, I have no idea what it's for. ![]() b.d |

How often do you lube the chain? Looks like it needs TLC. The grooves are normal but the chain looks a mess

Rear brake clank.
If you are stationary when this happenns is it fouling on the exhaust? I had an aftermarket one on my GSX and the clearance was marginal. If it is whilst riding along check the torque of the rear axle, brake caliper mounts, brake caliper torque arm. The chain rubbing on the rubber is fine. It is suprising how loud your bike can sound if you ride it with no lid. (On private roads and very slowly I might add!) P.

Have you adjusted the slack on your chain?Too much slack = noise when it hits parts of the bike it should'nt reach. You need about 3 cm slack in the middle of the chain run minimum.
