Default Hi Everybody

Hi Guys And Gals,

I have just bought my first bigger bike. SV650s.
I am due to take my test in the first week of next month but i have ridden my bike at a mates place where he has a long drive etc.
Its a fantastic bit of kit and i could not stop grinning the whole time and for the rest of the day. I have been told by everyone i speak to what a fantastic bike this is. I cant wait to be riding all the time and maybe i could attend one of your meets.
It would be great to hear from people for any advice on passing my test etc.
Thanks.

"Hi Doctor Nick!"

Advice on passing your test eh... um, don't run the examiner over when he jumps into the street to get you to do an emergency stop!

Oh, hang on...

... they've changed it all since my day haven't they. Sneaky beggers - makes me wonder what else they've changed whilst I've not been looking !

Just relax is the best thing I can possibly advise. Bikes are kinda like horses in that if you tense up they start to act all jittery.
Don't worry so much about actually passing just think about taking everything noce and smooth.

Oh yeah - and practise U turns. Alot! :P

Keeping thing smooth should be ok. Not running the instructor over,
Might have an issue with that.!!

Welcome to the site.

I'll be the first with the touchpaper... what year/colour did you opt for? *awaits usual arguments of pointies/curvies/colour* hehe.

Test advice? Practice U-Turns until they're coming out your whatsists. Some folks say with revs, some without, whatever does it nice & smooth won't fail your test though. The secret lies in your left hand, clutch control.

Other than that, the test hasn't finished until the examiner (hopefully) has taken your licence away (for a good reason, not a bad one! lol). Don't do what I did & think you've passed only to forget lifesaver & indicators when coming back into the carpark I was lucky, very lucky, that this was put down to test nerves & I passed.

The past is just practice, so get out on those roads, err, your mates drive, as much as you can. Practice will lead to confidence, the best friend of confidence is smoothness. Loads of folks say that the SV isn't the best bike to do your test on, but it should be no problem if you spend long enough on it. If you're having lessons (DAS etc) then use the instructors bike. Saves complications like insurance/L-plates on the SV & having to ride with your instructor.

Good luck with the test, and keep us all posted!

Pah, typical.

Obvious n00bie. You went for a curvy & yellow. Rookie mistake.

Everyone knows that the fastest (and most reliable) SV's are the blue pointies, and the K6's are the best on fuel!

FACT!

Welcome.

Can't help but think that, in a couple of years time and a few thousand posts, you're gonna regret your choice of username

Welcome & good luck, hire a bike to take your test and lessons on, you won't cry if you drop a battered CB500 while practicing U-turns

Yep I think you could be right about the username. Another Rookie mistake.

I like my bike to reflect my choice in woman so Curvey and bright is just about right.
