Just back from Silverstone where I lowsided going around Bridge Corner this morning - unfortunately the sun hadn't warmed up that part of the circuit yet , as I found out first hand!
![]() ![]() Back in the pits the damage as follows : - Foot Brake lever gone ( don't use anyway ) - Radiator bent - Back end plastic bent , license plate kinda lopsided. - Dented Renegade Carbon exhaust - arrgh , my pride and joy ![]() - A very small amount of oil somehow dripping from the left hand crash bung which is baffling me - I can't see where it comes from , but I am guessing somewhere in the middle of the bike there is a very small leak going onto the rod which runs through the bike connecting the crash bungs. I managed to ride it home ( fun 80 miles down the M1 in the slow lane nursing a fractured finger! ) but not sure what to do with the bike next - hoping I get some advice here . Cosmetic stuff I am not bothered about, and I guess a bet radiator is no problem- but bit worried about the oil - any idea if you can take a bike to a garage for a 'check up' where they assess the damage and just give you a quote - or at least just charge an hour or so labour for the trouble. Not sure how this kinda stuff all works as a bit new to this crashing stuff ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated, want to get back on the track asap so not to let the 'fear' build up over the xmas break! :P |

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. I think you're right in that a radiator shouldn't be too hard to come by.
As for the oil, it's possible that it escaped from the airbox. I'm not sure about the SV, but other bikes I've had use the airbox for the crankcase breather and a bit of oil collects there. It might be that whilst it was on it's side some leaked out and along the rod. I'm sure that someone with more experience of SV's will be along soon to give advice. Hope it's not too bad to sort and that your finger heals quick!

As long as the radiator's not leaking, a bent one is fine... If the rear plastics and the number plate are all bent, there's a good chance the subframe's twisted- mine bent like a banana when I crashed at about the same speed at Knockhill.

Hey Will, sorry to hear about this. Sounds like it could have been much worse - At least you're okay.
I would also guess that a bit of oil escaped through the airbox as well. Did you lose the front-end under braking? Which session was it? Luke |

Its probably worth lifting the tank up and taking the air filter out and checking in the airbox for oil. Its not hard to do.

Had the day off work to heal and check the bike , took the back plastics off and the back mudguard practically fell off , well I have been needing an excuse to get a tail tidy anyway
![]() Had a look at the rear frame as you suggested northwind , and its bent very slightly - will it still pass the MOT though ? - as if so I probably wont bother getting it fixed cos I imagine it will cost a fair bit ? |
